This Christmas season, we’re all amazed at the designs and food. As kids, we’re somehow enthralled by those red and white-colored candy canes. Candy canes, since they are mostly machine-made, are somewhat difficult to make. However, we can make our own ‘candy canes’, gelatin-style.

Ingredients

  • 2 tbsp. Unflavored White Gelatin Powder
  • ½ cup Cold Water
  • 1 cup Boiling Water
  • ½ cup Sugar
  • 1 ½ cup Chopped Strawberries
  • Red Food Coloring

Ingredients for Creamy Mint Layers

  • 2 tbsp. Unflavored White Gelatin Powder
  • ½ cup Cold Water
  • 1 cup Boiling Water
  • 1 ½ cup Sweetened Condensed Milk
  • ½ tsp. Mint Extract

What you will need

  • Egg Whisk
  • Blender or Food Processor
  • Cup Molds

Directions

  1. Prepare the gelatin by mixing it over ½ cup of cold water. Let it absorb the water for at least two minutes.

  1. After two minutes, whisk in 1 cup of boiling water until the gelatin is fully dissolved before adding the sugar. Transfer the entire mixture in a blender or food processor; add strawberries, food coloring and blend until it’s liquefied. Set aside at room temperature while skimming out the foam (foamy mixture makes holes in gelatin).

  1. Prepare the Creamy Mint Layers the same way you prepared the gelatin. Instead of sugar and strawberries however, whisk in the sweetened condensed milk and the mint extract until the mixture is fully dissolved.

  1. Set the cup mold at a 45-degree angle and spoon in a small amount of creamy mint mixture. Freeze it until the gelatin is set but not yet completely firm. The consistency will make the gelatin stick to your finger when touched. After that, put the gelatin mixture then freeze it again until it sets. Repeat the steps until the mold is full before freezing it overnight.

  1. To unmold the gelatin, dip the mold in warm water for 15 seconds but don’t let it get inside the mold. Set the gelatin in a serving plate. Put in some whipped cream and crushed mint leaves if desired.
